Our Story
A return to the food our grandmothers knew. Sourced fairly. Made slowly. Shared honestly.
पयोधारा - "धारा" मतलब अविरल बहाव
The name Payodhara
In Sanskrit, "payah" means milk and "dhara" means stream. Together, Payodhara is "the stream of milk" - a name we chose because it captures everything we wanted this brand to mean. Continuous. Pure. Nourishing. Connected to land and animal and the slow rhythm of traditional Indian food.
Our jars are not products. They are the result of a chain of careful decisions, made by farmers, churners, millers, packers, and a small team of people who believe food should still mean something.
Why A2 Bilona, why stoneground
Most ghee in supermarkets today is made from cream, machine-churned, and ready in hours. Our A2 Bilona ghee comes from cultured curd of free-grazing Gir cows, churned the slow way, and yields about a kilogram of ghee from twenty-five litres of milk. That ratio is not commerce - it is tradition.
The same logic runs through our atta. Khapli wheat, ground at low speeds on stone wheels, retains the bran, the germ, the slow-release carbohydrates. Modern roller-milled flour is faster and cheaper. It is also a different food.
Fair to farmers
We work directly with farming families across fourteen Indian states. No middlemen. No commodity-market pricing. Our farmers know what their grain or milk will sell for before they harvest, and they get paid within seven days.
Four percent of every order we ship goes back into the farmer welfare fund - building water-harvesting structures, soil-regeneration programs, and education stipends for farmer children. It is not charity. It is the cost of doing this kind of business honestly.
